Drivers urged to prepare for major traffic changes in Rozelle

Sydney motorists are advised to plan ahead for major changes to roads leading to the Anzac Bridge and Victoria Road, Rozelle.

New lanes, temporary access roads, and new merge points will be introduced across two phases in September and October 2020 on City-West Link Road, The Crescent, Victoria Road and James Craig Road. These changes will be in place for approximately two years as part of construction of the Rozelle Interchange.

Transport for NSW Chief Operations Officer Howard Collins is advising Sydneysiders to make themselves aware of the new road configurations ahead of time.

“As work continues on the Rozelle Interchange the safety of road users, the community and our workers is vital,” Mr Collins said.

“From 26 September the current left turn from Victoria Road to the Anzac Bridge will be replaced by a new three lane Anzac Bridge Access Road near the White Bay Power Station,” Mr Collins said.

“We ask drivers to take extra care as they turn off to the City, and merge with traffic in a new way as they approach the Anzac Bridge,” Mr Collins said.

In October, the new Victoria Road Access Road will open from City-West Link Road to Victoria Road. This means changes to the way drivers access Victoria Road from City-West Link Road, The Crescent and James Craig Road.

This will require motorists travelling east on City-West Link Road to keep to the furthest two left lanes to access Victoria Road. Vehicles from The Crescent will also need to keep to the left lane in order to access Victoria Road. Motorists exiting James Craig Road will need to also stay left to access Victoria Road.

“We have developed a driver awareness campaign and installed extra Variable Message Signs (VMS) to help everyone safely manage these important changes. The driver awareness campaign is on social media, digital channels, press and radio.

“Our goal is to ensure all road users have early warning about these changes, both online and on the roads when they are in their vehicles approaching this intersection.”

The two temporary access roads will require motorists to take extra care when moving through the area.  The new temporary access roads will allow work to be carried out on the current Victoria Road while keeping traffic moving on Victoria Road and City-West Link Road.

The Rozelle Interchange is a new underground motorway interchange to Anzac Bridge, City West-Link Road and Victoria Road. It will provide a bypass of Victoria Road between the Iron Cove Bridge and the Anzac Bridge, with links to the Western Harbour Tunnel.

“The Rozelle Interchange project will bring terrific benefits to the local community. These include significantly less traffic on Victoria Road and an expansive new public open space on the site of the old Rozelle rail yards,” Mr Collins said.

We thank motorists for their patience as we carry out this important work.
