Major construction for the Parramatta Light Rail has begun on Parramatta’s ‘Eat Street’ in the first step towards the revitalisation of the famous dining strip.
From this week, works will begin to remove outdoor dining infrastructure along Eat Street and install fencing.
Over the next five months, light rail works will include the removal of the existing pavement and road surface, deep excavation and moving or replacing underground utilities including water, gas pipes and telecommunication services.
A construction grace period on Eat Street will see works cease on 1 November 2020 until 31 January 2021 and some outdoor dining restored over the busy warmer months.
The precinct, closed to car traffic in February ahead of light rail works, has been impacted by COVID-19 lockdown measures and will benefit from a vibrant program of events and activities planned to celebrate the distinctiveness of the area.
