Property managers, councils, universities, hospitals and hundreds of businesses have now taken up the offer of support from Transport’s Travel Choices Team to help plan their return to their workplaces as they transition into their New Normal.
The Travel Choices Team continues to add to its raft of valuable resources to help employers and employees make COVIDSafe choices and plan ahead for any necessary public transport trips. Their latest resource is an employers’ guide to activating their six key messages, with lots of ideas for translating information into sustainable changes in workplace travel behaviour.
For those who need to travel, extra public transport services are continuing to ensure physical distancing is possible and safe, alongside increased cleaning regimes and discounted off-peak Opal fares.
The Team is also promoting the use of the Travel Insights tool to plan travel outside peak times and real-time Transport apps to see which services may have space available, and if a train, bus, ferry or tram is too busy, their advice is to wait for the next service. Last week, the network in the CBD was about 45% less busy in the morning between 7-8am and 9-10am, than 8-9am.
Customers are being encouraged to keep working flexibly where possible, avoid the busier times of the day and consider other travel options including driving, walking and bicycle riding.
It is strongly recommended that customers wear a face mask when using the public transport network across NSW, in particular where physical distancing is not possible.
In line with NSW Health advice, customers should always stay home if they feel unwell, practise physical distancing and ensure good hand hygiene when using public transport. The use of a face mask does not replace the need for these important measures.
Travel Choices is a free resource to help individuals, businesses and organisations prepare for and adapt to the changes to Sydney’s transport network. The Travel Choices team is here to provide support for those making the shift to more sustainable ways of moving into, out of and around Sydney.
Transport is a key part of NSW’s plan for a COVIDSafe economy, helping people safely move around, return to jobs, provide certainty for businesses and keep the economy open.
