Major construction to upgrade roads around the new Northern Beaches Hospital have now been completed, increasing capacity on the road network and improving access through the area, including for pedestrians and cyclists.
Stage 1 construction commenced in November 2015, which involved providing essential access to the Northern Beaches Hospital. This included the widening and upgrade of Frenchs Forest Road East and West, Allambie Road, Wakehurst Parkway, Naree Road and Forest Way, and Warringah Road eastbound and westbound surface lanes.
Stage 1 was completed prior to the opening of the Northern Beaches Hospital in October 2018.
Stage 2 saw the construction of the Warringah Road widening project’s centrepiece – the 1.3 kilometre long open-air underpass.
The underpass bridge at Hilmer Street was opened in March 2019 and the underpass bridges at Forest Way and Wakehurst Parkway were completed in September 2019. The Warringah Road underpass opened to traffic in March 2020.
Transport for NSW would like to thank residents, the local community and commuters for their support and patience during the construction of this important piece of infrastructure.
