Up to 35,000 people will be taking part in the Half Marathon, Wheelchair Marathon, Marathon, Bridge Run and Family Run, which all start at Milsons Point. The Family Run will finish in the Royal Botanic Gardens, while the other events will end at the Opera House.
“The Harbour Bridge, along with the Cahill Expressway, will be closed from 4am until 11am,” a Transport Management Centre spokesperson said.
“The Western Distributor will be closed between the city and Pyrmont from 4am until midday so you won’t be able to drive between the Anzac Bridge and Harbour Bridge during this time,” the spokesperson said.
Major roads in Milsons Point, the Sydney CBD, Pyrmont and Darlinghurst will also close at 4am, while closures in Moore Park start from 5:30am. All roads will reopen by 1:30pm.
“The advice is to avoid driving in areas affected by significant road closures, especially while the Harbour Bridge is shut,” the spokesperson said.
“The Sydney Harbour Tunnel will be open but there will be long delays so it’s best to postpone travel until after lunch or use the Gladesville Bridge and Victoria Road.”
Street parking will be restricted along and surrounding the event courses as special event clearways will be in place between 1am and 1:30pm.
“Make sure you check the signs carefully, especially when parking your car on Saturday night, as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies.”
“Anyone taking part or volunteering in the event is encouraged to catch public transport as extra trains and buses will be running, and travel on public transport is covered.”
“There’ll be extra trains running to Milsons Point from 5am, with T1 North Shore, Northern & Western Line trains every five to 15 minutes, and limited stop T2 Inner West Line trains every 30 minutes.”
“There’ll also be extra early morning buses from the Eastern Suburbs and Inner West to the city, and Northern Suburbs to North Sydney.”
While roads are closed, buses will be diverting and using temporary stops. Most buses that usually travel over the Harbour Bridge will start and end their trips at North Sydney while the bridge is shut. Route 194, 270 and 271 services will use the Harbour Tunnel instead.
Trackwork will be taking place on part of the T3 Bankstown Line and T4 Eastern Suburbs & Illawarra Line, with buses replacing trains between Sydenham and Central.
Express rail replacement buses will run from Sydenham to the city to help participants connect with trains to the start line at Milsons Point.
