Major roads to close on Sunday for City2Surf

Major roads will be closed and parking restrictions will be in place between the Sydney CBD and Eastern Suburbs this Sunday 11 August for the City2Surf.

More than 80,000 people are expected to line up for the world’s largest fun run, with the first group leaving at 7:50am and the last group at 9:35am.

“Anyone taking part in the City2Surf should catch public transport as there will be plenty of services, and your entry fee covers travel on trains, Metro services, buses, ferries and light rail,” a Transport Management Centre spokesperson said.

Roads around the start line, including sections of College Street, Macquarie Street, Park Street and William Street, will close from 3:30am. Closures between Woolloomooloo and Edgecliff and around Bondi Beach will start from 6am, with all closures in place by 7am.

Roads will start reopening in the city from 11:30am and in the Eastern Suburbs from 1pm. All roads are expected to be open again by 4pm.

“Motorists are advised to avoid areas affected by the road closures or be prepared for significant delays and allow plenty of extra travel time,” the spokesperson said.

From 1am Sunday, special event clearways will also be in place along the entire length of the 14km course, as well as on Bondi Road.

“Make sure you check the signs before parking, especially if you’re leaving your car overnight on Saturday, as vehicles left in these clearways will be towed and a fee apply.”

“To get you to the start line, there will be trains to the city every 10 to 15 minutes, frequent Metro services, extra buses on major roads into the city, and extra early ferries from Manly to Circular Quay.

“To get you home, special event shuttle buses will run regularly from Bondi Beach to Bondi Junction, and trains will leave Bondi Junction every five minutes from 10am to 4pm.

“Before setting out on Sunday, it’s a good idea to plan your trip and make sure you leave yourself plenty of time given the size of the crowds that will be running, walking and travelling on Sunday.

“Also be prepared for queues to buses from Bondi Beach to Bondi Junction, especially after 11am when more people will be crossing the finish line.”
