Go west on toll-free Sydney Gateway

As of 11 February 2024, westbound traffic is being routed on to the new Airport Drive heading towards Sydney Airport’s International terminal via the new twin arch bridge at Tempe.

Westbound traffic in the Airport Precinct will use the new Airport Drive, marking a key milestone in the toll-free Sydney Gateway project.

Eastbound traffic has been using Sydney Gateway since November 2023, including the Deborah Lawrie flyover into the domestic terminals.

Old Airport Drive, the road that skirts the runway between the domestic and international terminals at the northern edge of the airport, is now closed.

Westbound traffic will cross the first twin arch bridge while work continues on the second bridge. The second bridge (when open) will connect the St Peters interchange with capacity for four lanes of traffic in each direction.

Sydney Gateway is designed to handle 100,000 vehicles a day, including 10,000 trucks, and will slash travel times between Western Sydney and the airport when the connection to the wider motorway network is opened this year.

Transport for NSW’s Sydney Gateway Project Director Tristan Frost said the westbound traffic switch is an important step in the staged opening of Sydney Gateway, which aims to minimise disruption for motorists around the airport precinct.

“Work will now ramp up to prepare the second Twin Arch Bridge for traffic and integrating the new roads with the wider motorway network at St Peters,” he said.

“We are full steam ahead to complete Sydney Gateway this year.”
