Plan your trip for Australia Day 2024

Sydneysiders and visitors heading to Australia Day events across Sydney are urged to plan ahead and consider all the travel options.

Public transport will be the best way to travel with services running regularly throughout the day and night to a weekend timetable, with some additional services.

A number of major transport hubs are a short walking distance to event precincts in Circular Quay and The Rocks with extra trains and buses running to help you get there and home again.

You'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport on Australia Day.

Key roads in Circular Quay, The Rocks and Milsons Point around the Harbour will close in the morning and evening to support Australia Day events. Some car parks will not be accessible while roads are closed, so if you must drive, plan ahead.

Special event clearway parking restrictions will also be in effect on roads in the area, so check signs carefully to avoid being towed.

Some bus routes will be affected by road closures and ferries will be affected by exclusion zones on the harbour in the daytime and evening. Ferry passengers are encouraged to consider the alternative transport options as delays are expected while events take place on the harbour.

Light rail services will not run between Circular Quay and Town Hall from 7:30pm to 10:30pm while crowds are leaving the harbour after the events.
