Weekend rail repair focuses on Western Line between Lidcombe and Strathfield

Passengers are urged to plan ahead this weekend, 16-17 December, as essential Rail Repair Plan trackwork targets key sections of the network to improve resilience and reliability.

From 10pm Friday through the weekend buses will replace trains between Lidcombe and Strathfield on the T1 and T2.

Some T1 Western Line services will continue to run direct to the City via the Bankstown line.

Passengers travelling from Sydney’s south west to the city should change at Glenfield, Liverpool or Lidcombe for direct trains via the T3 or T8 lines.

On Saturday and Sunday, buses replace trains between Central and Bondi Junction on the T4 Eastern Suburbs line. Trackwork buses do not leave from Martin Place Station, use nearby bus stops or the light rail to Town Hall or Central.

Sydney Trains will have around 708 workers undertaking a significant amount of work to remove around 45 high-priority defects.

Some trains may run to changed stopping pattern and timetable. Passengers may need to change trains and are encouraged to allow extra travel time and plan ahead by visiting transportnsw.info or using trip planning apps.

Sydney Trains thanks our passengers for their patience as we work to build a more resilient and reliable network.

Metro Work

On Saturday and Sunday buses will replace metro services between Tallawong and Chatswood while trackwork and testing is carried out along the full alignment, beneath the city and on to Sydenham.

Intercity Services

On Saturday and Sunday trains run between Blue Mountains Line stations and Blacktown due to trackwork between Lidcombe and Strathfield. Passengers travelling to Strathfield or the City should change at Penrith for an express bus to Strathfield.

On Saturday from 10am to 4pm, buses will replace trains on the Southern Highlands Line between Campbelltown and Moss Vale.
