$2bn funding boost for Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2
Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 is set to become a reality for the growing communities in Western Sydney following an investment announcement on 4 June 2024.
The NSW Government is unlocking $73 million to update the final business case and commence planning as part of the 2024-25 NSW Budget, as well as investing $2 billion over five years to expedite procurement, utility works and delivery on Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2.
Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 will connect Stage 1 and the Parramatta CBD to Sydney Olympic Park via Camellia, Rydalmere, Ermington, Melrose Park and Wentworth Point.
This city-shaping project will feature a new 10-kilometre, two-way track and 14 fully accessible light rail stops.
Passengers will be able to travel from Sydney Olympic Park to Camellia in around 30 minutes, and on to the Parramatta CBD in another seven minutes.
Construction will be phased, with initial design and early works to begin later this year on a new public and active transport bridge over Parramatta River between Melrose Park and Wentworth Point.
Procurement is currently underway to appoint a contractor to design and build the 320-metre bridge, with major construction expected to start in 2025.
