Travel advice for passengers across Sydney this weekend - From 4 April

Motorists and passengers are being advised of a range of road and rail impacts across Sydney this weekend due to trackwork, ongoing project works, and major events.

Sydney Harbour Bridge

Up to five lanes on the Sydney Harbour Bridge deck will close for maintenance and upgrade works from tonight:

  • Friday 4 April: 11.30pm – 8am (up to five lanes)
  • Saturday 5 April: 9.30pm – 8am (up to five lanes)
  • Sunday 6 April: 9.30pm – 5am (up to five lanes)
  • Monday 7 April: 9pm - 5am (up to five lanes)
  • Tuesday 8 April: 9pm – 5am (up to five lanes)
  • Wednesday 9 April: 9pm – 5am (up to four lanes)
  • Thursday 10 April: 9pm – 5am (up to five lanes)

During the closures above, motorists can use other lanes on the Sydney Harbour Bridge or drive through the Sydney Harbour Tunnel as an alternative route, noting tunnel lane closures below.

Sydney Harbour Tunnel

Both northbound lanes of the Sydney Harbour Tunnel will be closed on Wednesday 9 April from 11pm to 5am. 

Heathcote Road

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions on Heathcote Road due to emergency works. Media release here

  • Heathcote Road will be closed nightly from 8pm to 5am, Monday 7 April to Thursday 17 April.  Motorists can detour via Bangor Bypass and are advised to expect delays and to allow extra travel time.

Warringah Freeway Upgrade

Motoristsare advised of changed traffic conditions on the Warringah Freeway.  

  • Mount Street eastern on ramp is closed continuously from 10pm tonight to 5am Monday 7 April. Detour via Mount Street western on ramp. 
  • Miller Street southbound on ramp will continue to be closed 10am to 6am weekdays until early May. Motorists are advised to use either the Ernest Street or the Falcon Street on ramp as an alternative and should check signage.

M6 Stage 1

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions and lane closures on President Avenue in Kogarah tomorrow Saturday, 5 April from 7am to 7pm. For more info: M6 Stage 1 – weekend work on President Avenue.

M4 Motorway

Motorists are advised the westbound off ramp to/from Mulgoa Road to the M4 will be closed on Monday 7 April from 8pm to 5am.

M7 Motorway

Motorists are advised of single lane closures in both directions on the M7 Motorway between Elizabeth Drive and Cowpasture Road from 8pm tonight Friday 4 April to 8am Sunday 6 April due to M7 bridge works.

Essential Trackwork

  • City Circle – Trains will not run on the City Circle, or between Central and North Sydney. For travel around the city, use T4 trains, metro, light rail or local bus services. 
  • T1 North Shore Line – From tonight Friday 10.45pm and all weekend, trains run between Berowra and North Sydney only. Trains do not run between North Sydney and Central.  For travel across the Sydney Harbour Bridge use metro, or local bus services. 
  • T1 Western Line and T5 Cumberland Line – T1 trains run between Penrith and Central only during the weekend. On Sunday from 5.45am to 11am, buses replace trains between Richmond and Schofields or Blacktown.
  • T2 Leppington & Inner West Line and T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line – Buses replace Inner West trains between Strathfield and Central.
  • T4 Illawarra Line – Saturday 4am to 11.30am, buses replace trains between Waterfall and Sutherland.
  • South Coast Line – Saturday 3am to 11am, buses replace trains between Dapto, Port Kembla and Sutherland. Sunday 2.30am to 9.50am, buses replace trains between Bomaderry and Wollongong. 

Trackwork on other lines may affect how you travel. Trains may run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. Passengers may need to change trains to complete their journey and are encouraged to allow extra travel time and plan ahead by visiting transportnsw.info/alerts or using trip planning apps. 

Major Events

  • Matildas v Korea Republic, International Women’s Football Friendly: up to 40,000 fans are expected to descend on Moore Park tonight to see the Matildas take on Korea Republic at Allianz Stadium. Fans are urged to catch public transport with travel included in match tickets, and additional light rail services and buses running. Parking will be in high demand and traffic will already be heavy during the busy weeknight peak, so those who need to drive should leave home early and expect delays.   • Sydney Streets in Surry Hills: City of Sydney’s Sydney Streets event will see Crown Street close this Saturday between Cleveland Street and Foveaux Street from 8am to 11.30pm. Surrounding local roads will also close. Buses will be diverting and using different stops while closures are in place. As well, special event clearways will be in effect from 7am to 11.30pm. Motorists should check signs carefully to avoid being towed and allow extra travel time as delays are expected on roads in the area.
