FIFA Women’s World Cup™ finals fever hits Sydney Olympic Park

The Matildas are carrying the hopes of a nation as they inch closer to competition glory, having booked a coveted place in the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ Quarter Finals. Sydney Olympic Park will be awash with football frenzy over the next two weeks.

Around 75,000 ecstatic football fans will descend on Stadium Australia as it hosts the Quarter Final between England and Colombia on Saturday 12 August, Semi Final on Wednesday 16 August and the Final on Sunday 20 August.

The Matildas will play their Quarter Final in Brisbane on Saturday 12 August and if they win, will return to hallowed turf at Sydney Olympic Park for the Semi Final.

Fans travelling to any of the finals matches at Sydney Olympic Park are urged to leave the car at home, plan ahead and take public transport, while Sydney motorists should be mindful of traffic delays around the precinct.

Transport for NSW Acting Chief Operations Officer Craig Moran said hundreds of extra, frequent services will be in operation to get fans safely to and from matches.

“We have seen amazing uptake on public transport to all FIFA Women’s World Cup™ matches with the network moving tens of thousands of fans across the tournament so far,” Mr Moran said.

“We encourage fans to continue catching public transport to finals games – the best thing is your trip is included in your game ticket.

“More than 200 extra services, including express trains and Major Event Buses will run for each match at Sydney Olympic Park.

“Traffic will be heavy around the precinct and parking is highly likely to sell out for remaining games so please don’t drive unless you have a pre-booked space or you may risk getting caught in delays and miss the start of action.”

Ticketholders are urged to make the most of it and arrive early to enjoy the exciting pre-game atmosphere in the precinct. There are a number of local venues as well as food stalls that will be open pre and post match.

Parking is limited in the precinct with P1 car park already sold out for all remaining games and spaces selling fast in nearby car parks. If you haven't pre-booked parking, you’ll need to catch public transport. Consider parking at a commuter car park and continuing your trip by train.

Sydney Olympic Park will be extremely busy on Wednesday 16 August with a combined crowd of nearly 100,000 fans heading to the precinct for the Semi Final football match and a Luke Combs concert at neighbouring Qudos Bank Arena.

Concert and football fans are strongly urged to leave the car at home to avoid the already busy evening peak traffic.

Luke Combs fans are reminded they need to tap on and off public transport services to Sydney Olympic Park.

Fans can also watch every match live streamed from the FIFA Fan Festival™ site in Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour during the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ 2023.

Frequent light rail and train services run to stops within short walking distance of Darling Harbour.

Public Transport

Around 1,800 additional public transport services have been scheduled for the tournament, including extra buses and train services for each match at Olympic Park.

Weekend trackwork on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 August on T2 Inner West & Leppington Line and T5 Cumberland Line will see buses replacing trains between Cabramatta and Granville. There is no major planned trackwork that will affect fans travelling to and from Sydney Olympic Park by train for remaining matches.
