The T3 Bankstown Line between Sydenham and Bankstown is planned to close from 30 September 2024 for up to 12 months while the line is upgraded to metro standards.
Southwest Link buses will provide a free, high frequency service between Sydenham and Bankstown helping you get to where you need to go.

T3 Bankstown Line closes between Sydenham and Bankstown to prepare for metro conversion work
- Southwest Link bus services start, providing a high frequency bus service between Sydenham and Bankstown stations for 12 months.
- Buses temporarily replace trains between Lidcombe and Bankstown for approximately 3 weeks. Yagoona and Birrong stations will be closed and serviced by train replacement buses during this time.
- T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line train service introduced from Liverpool to the City via Lidcombe.
- St Peters and Erskineville stations: Now serviced by the T8 Airport & South Line.

- Fare-free travel: Travel on Southwest Link buses is fare free – no need to tap on and off.
- Three routes: Three dedicated bus routes - SW1, SW2 and SW3 - offering a mix of all-stops and limited stops services.
- High-frequency: Frequent services every day from early in the morning until late at night, with a bus every two to four minutes in peak periods.
- Pink buses: Easily recognisable pink buses with plenty of signage to help people get on the right service.
Southwest Link bus services planned to start from 30 September 2024
SW1: Bankstown, then all stations to Sydenham and return
SW2: Bankstown, Punchbowl, Wiley Park, Lakemba, Belmore, then express to Sydenham and return.
SW3: Campsie, Canterbury, then express to Sydenham and return
Train replacement bus services between Lidcombe and Bankstown from 30 September 2024
- From 30 September 2024, buses temporarily replace trains between Lidcombe and Bankstown stations for approximately 3 weeks.
- Yagoona and Birrong stations will be closed and serviced by train replacement buses during this time.
- Change at Lidcombe for trains to T1, T2 and T3 trains to City, Parramatta or Redfern.
- Change at Regents Park for T3 trains to Liverpool.
- Travel on these train replacement buses is fare free.

Changes include:
- T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line train services - services between Liverpool and the City Circle will run via Regents Park and Lidcombe, maintaining a direct service to Sydney CBD for passengers.
- Train replacement buses - buses temporarily replace trains between Lidcombe and Bankstown stations. Birrong and Yagoona stations will be closed during this time.
