More than half of Parramatta Light Rail vehicle fleet delivered

Western Sydney is home to more than half of the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 vehicle fleet, with all 13 light rail vehicles expected to arrive by the end of the year.

Eight vehicles have been delivered, with the coupling of vehicle cars and electricals underway, in preparation for the on-site testing and commissioning of vehicles later this year.

Transport for NSW Executive Director Community & Place Steven Issa said Western Sydney’s public transport network is set to be transformed once the new light rail vehicles are in operation.

“Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 will offer passengers high-frequency ‘turn up and go services’, arriving every 7.5 minutes during peak periods, without the need for a public transport timetable,” Mr Issa said.

“The light rail will connect passengers to key destinations and attractions including the Parramatta CBD, Westmead Health Precinct, CommBank Stadium, the largest museum in NSW Powerhouse Parramatta, Rosehill Gardens Racecourse and three Western Sydney University campuses,” he said.

“It will also integrate with other public transport options, including buses, trains, ferries, and the future Sydney Metro West, as well as local active transport links; to deliver a sustainable and holistic option for people in Western Sydney to connect, move and enjoy what the area has to offer.”

Transport for NSW’s Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 Project Director Craig Paterson said it was exciting for the project to reach this significant milestone in light rail vehicle delivery.

“It’s a great achievement that reflects our ongoing commitment to deliver the project for the community, and I look forward to seeing the entire light rail fleet at the Stabling and Maintenance Facility in Camellia by the end of the year.”
