New shared pathway connects Parramatta communities

In exciting news for the community, the 5.7km shared walking and bike riding path that runs alongside the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 alignment from Carlingford to Parramatta is now open for use.

The shared path (also known as an active transport link) has been delivered as part of the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 project and will provide residents and visitors with improved access to local businesses, educational facilities and recreational spaces along the corridor, while promoting healthy and active lifestyles.

The path features multiple access points between Boundary Road in Carlingford and Tramway Avenue in Parramatta; as well as bike racks, seating, water stations, journey maps, signs, and motion-sensor LED lighting. View the map here.

For the first time, pedestrians and bike riders will be able to travel over James Ruse Drive across Bidgee Bidgee Bridge in Rosehill, providing some of the best scenic views of Western Sydney.

The path will also connect people to future transport options including the Alfred Street bridge link over Parramatta River, Alfred Street Cycleway and 91-kilometre Parramatta to Sydney Foreshore Link.

Ongoing minor light rail construction works continue along the alignment may impact where people can access and travel on the path from time to time. Users are encouraged to check the project website for any access changes or impacts before their journey on this page.

First passenger services for the Parramatta Light Rail are scheduled for 2024.
