Plan ahead for upcoming works including South Coast Line and Central Station

Rail passengers are advised to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time as Rail Repair Plan trackwork this weekend on the South Coast Line and revitalisation work at Central Station next week will mean changes to train services and timetables.

This work has been scheduled to take advantage of the school holiday period when fewer passengers travel on the network.

Passengers are advised to check their apps and transportnsw.info for live information on service changes to their line.

South Coast Line & T4 Illawarra Line

This weekend, the Rail Repair Plan tackles the South Coast and T4 Illawarra lines, with 1650 crew working on 274 sites along 105km of track.

On Saturday and Sunday, buses will replace South Coast trains between Dapto and Central, and between Port Kembla and Wollongong.

Trains will continue to run to a changed timetable between Bomaderry and Kiama, and between Kiama and Dapto.

On the T4 Illawarra Line, buses will replace trains between Cronulla, Waterfall and Central. Some buses will start and end at Redfern or Sydenham.

Passengers wishing to travel to T8 Airport & South Line stations should change at Central or catch a bus.

Intercity & Regional Services to/from Central Station

Intercity and regional passengers will need to change trains to complete their journey from Wednesday 5 July to Monday 10 July during work at Central Station as part of the Sydney Terminal Area Reconfiguration project.

Platforms 1 to 12 will be closed during these six days and all travellers are advised to allow extra time, check indicator screens, and listen to announcements as changes are as follows:

  • Blue Mountains passengers -- change at Blacktown
  • Central Coast & Newcastle passengers -- change at Strathfield
  • Southern Highlands passengers – change at Campbelltown
  • Regional services from the north change at Broadmeadow, from the west at Lithgow, and from the south at Campbelltown.

NSW TrainLink services via the North Shore Line operate as normal.

Suburban platforms 16-25 operate as normal apart from occasional minor stopping pattern changes on the T1 and T9 lines.

Metro enabling work impacts T3 Bankstown Line

Passengers are also advised sections of the T3 Bankstown Line will be closed from 6 July to 16 July to facilitate work on the Sydney Metro City and Southwest project.

Buses will replace trains from Lidcombe to Sydenham throughout the trackwork while on the weekend of 8 and 9 July, the closure will extend from Cabramatta to Sydenham.

Sydney Trains is working hard to minimise the impact on passengers by completing work outside peak periods, however, passengers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and plan ahead by visiting transportnsw.info or using trip planning apps on their mobile devices.
