Plan your trip to Vivid Sydney

If you're heading to Vivid Sydney to take in the biggest and brightest assortment of installations yet, plan ahead and leave the car at home.

With hundreds of installations spread across three key precincts, it's best to plan your Vivid Sydney experience over a few nights if you're keen to see it all.

Vivid Sydney will also light up Sydney's iconic Taronga Zoo with Wild Lights. There are two new ticketed precincts this year including Royal Botanic Garden Sydney’s ‘Lightscape’ and Wynyard Tunnels ‘Dark Spectrum’.

The city is no place for cars during Vivid Sydney with road closures and parking restrictions in place each night.

The best way to get around is by public transport with all Vivid Sydney precincts within short walking distance of major transport hubs and plenty of extra services running to help you get there and home again. See our Vivid Sydney Light Walk and Transport map (pdf 712KB) to find your way.

Remember, you'll need to use an Opal card or contactless payment card/device when travelling on public transport to and from the event. Register your details online at Opal or via the Opal Travel app ahead of time.

There will be changes to some public transport services due to road closures and for pedestrian safety during Vivid Sydney so factor in additional walking time and plan ahead as getting to and from the harbour will be different.

On Friday nights from 6pm and on weekends from 5pm buses and light rail services will not run to Circular Quay. Light rail services will end at Town Hall and buses will relocate to Martin Place. As well, on Saturday nights and Sunday of the June long weekend (11 June), trains will not drop off passengers at Circular Quay Station, visitors will need to alight at Wynyard, Martin Place or St James instead and continue on foot to the harbour.

Please note transport services will also be affected on Drone Show nights - for more info on the shows visit the Vivid Sydney website.

  • Light rail: from 9.15pm to 9.45pm on Wednesday 7 and Wednesday 14 June services will not run between Town Hall and Circular Quay to allow crowds to safely clear the area after the Vivid Sydney drone shows.
  • Trains: from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on Wed 7 June, Mon 12 June and Wed 14 June trains from the T2 and T3 Lines to the City will not stop at Circular Quay Station while Vivid Sydney Drone shows are underway in the harbour. Alight at Wynyard and walk to Circular Quay.

Vivid Sydney attracts large crowds each year, especially on Friday nights and weekends, so if you want to avoid the peak crowds or are travelling with families consider visiting on a weeknight instead.
