Upcoming works across Sydney’s road network - from Friday 4 August

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions on the Sydney Harbour Bridge from tonight (Friday 4 August) and in the Sydney Harbour Tunnel from Sunday night (6 August) for maintenance.

Motorists are also advised of heavy traffic around stadiums for the FIFA Women’s World Cup™ and other major events.

FIFA Women’s World Cup™ 2023

Around 75,000 football fans are expected to cheer on the Matildas in their Round of 16 match on Monday night, 7 August as the Aussies take on Denmark at Stadium Australia in Sydney Olympic Park.

Kick-off is at 8.30pm and traffic will be heavy and parking very limited so fans should take advantage of extra trains and buses to get to and from the game. Travel on public transport is included in your match ticket.

If you must drive, it is essential to pre-book a parking space and leave plenty of travel time to avoid missing any action.

Sydney will also host a Round of 16 match this Sunday 6 August at 12pm – Netherlands vs South Africa – at Sydney Football Stadium in Moore Park. Extra shuttle buses and light rail services will run, however these will be busy.

Where possible, fans should consider walking from Central to Moore Park via Devonshire and Foveaux streets to avoid queues for transport services.

Parking is extremely limited, so fans are urged to leave the car at home. Traffic will be heavy around the precinct with the One Fine Baby Expo and the Ultimate Winter Markets running at the same time as the match on Sunday.

Rail Repair trackwork on the Olympic Park Line this weekend will not impact any of the special event services to support people getting to and from FIFA Women’s World Cup™ fixture on Sunday.

Major events at Sydney Olympic Park

Traffic will be heavy around Sydney Olympic Park this weekend with a number of major events happening around the same time.

AFL fans travelling to Sydney Olympic Park for the Sydney Swans v GWS Giants match on Saturday night, as well those heading to Cirque du Soleil Crystal shows at Qudos Bank Arena, are advised buses replace trains between Lidcombe and Olympic Park on the T7 Olympic Park Line on Saturday 5 August and Sunday 6 August for essential maintenance works.

Replacement buses will be frequent, however, demand for services will be high and queues are expected so leave plenty of extra travel time. Transport staff will be on the ground to assist passengers.

Sydney Trains is working hard to minimise the impact of the essential work of the Rail Repair Plan as much as possible, including prioritising FIFA games. Given our city’s phenomenal rolling program of events and entertainment, unfortunately some clashes are inevitable.

For people attending the Sydney Disability Expo on Saturday 5 August, Sydney Olympic Park has accessible and mobility car parking spaces, and all rail replacement buses will be wheelchair accessible.

Ticketholders can consider driving with your group to events at Sydney Olympic Park this weekend. Be mindful traffic will be heavy entering and exiting car parks and roads around Sydney Olympic Park. If you drive, it is essential to pre-book your parking online to secure a space as parking will be in high demand with other events taking place in the precinct.

Those travelling from the Hills district to events at Sydney Olympic Park this weekend should be aware planned trackwork will also occur on the Metro North West Line from 2am Saturday 5 August to 2am Monday 7 August. Buses will replace metro trains between Tallawong and Chatswood during this time.

Buses also replace trains between Berowra and Hornsby on the T1 North Shore Line and between Hornsby and Strathfield on the T9 Northern Line this weekend.
