Upcoming works and major events across Sydney’s road network - from 11 August

Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions on the Sydney Harbour Bridge from tonight (Friday 11 August) for maintenance, as well as heavy traffic around precincts for the FIFA Women’s World Cup and other major events this weekend.

FIFA Women’s World Cup™ 2023

Around 75,000 football fans will descend on Stadium Australia for the Quarter Final between England and Colombia on Saturday 12 August at 8.30pm followed by the Semi Final on Wednesday 16 August and the Final on Sunday 20 August.

Fans travelling to any of the finals matches are urged to leave the car at home, plan ahead and take public transport, while Sydney motorists should be mindful of traffic delays around the Sydney Olympic Park precinct.

Parking is very limited and likely to sell out so fans should take advantage of extra trains and buses to get to and from matches. Travel on public transport is included in your match ticket. If you must drive, it is essential to pre-book a parking space and leave plenty of travel time to avoid missing any action.

Weekend trackwork on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 August on T2 Inner West & Leppington Line and T5 Cumberland Line will see buses replacing trains between Cabramatta and Granville. There is no major planned trackwork that will affect fans travelling to and from Sydney Olympic Park by train for remaining matches.

Sydney Olympic Park will be extremely busy on Wednesday 16 August with a combined crowd of nearly 100,000 fans heading to the precinct for the Semi Final football match and a Luke Combs concert at neighbouring Qudos Bank Arena. Concert and football fans are strongly urged to leave the car at home to avoid the already busy evening peak traffic.

Luke Combs fans are reminded they need to tap on and off public transport services to Sydney Olympic Park.

City2Surf fun run

Major roads will be closed between the Sydney CBD and Bondi Beach on Sunday 13 August while up to 80,000 people take part in the annual City2Surf 14km fun run.

Roads around the start area at Hyde Park close from as early as 3.30am with major closures through the Eastern Suburbs from 6am.

Roads will progressively reopen in the city from 11.30am then through the Eastern Suburbs between 1pm and 2pm. Roads around the finish area at Bondi Beach will remain closed until 4pm.

Special event clearway parking restrictions will be enforced along the entire 14km course between 1am and midday in the city and 1am and 4pm through the Eastern Suburbs.

Clearways are strict no-parking zones for all vehicle types, so motorists and residents need to check signs carefully on the day and the night before as vehicles left in clearways will be towed and a fee applies.

City2Surf participants and volunteers can travel on public transport without tapping on or tapping off. Extra services will run to get you to and from the event so leave the car at home.

Sydney motorists are advised to avoid unnecessary travel through the Eastern Suburbs on Sunday 13 August or to expect delays and allow plenty of extra travel time as traffic will be heavy while closures and detours are in place.

There will be no access to the city via New South Head Rd until after 12pm, the alternative route is via Oxford St. Motorists are also urged to avoid Bondi Rd as many additional buses will be transporting thousands of participants between the beach and the junction throughout the day.
