Wiley Park Station gets major accessibility upgrade

Wiley Park Station has further improved access with new lifts put into service for the first time in the station’s history.

These are the first new lifts to be completed by the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project to convert the T3 Bankstown Line to metro standards.  

These improvements will make accessing all 10 stations between Marrickville and Bankstown safer and easier for everyone, particularly those with a disability, limited mobility, travelling with luggage or with a pram. 

It is an exciting milestone for the people of southwest Sydney with customers on the 128-year-old Bankstown Line starting to reap the benefits from these major upgrades.

The installation of the lifts took place over several weekend possessions, using a 350-tonne crane to lift the shafts into place.  

In addition to the two new lifts, Wiley Park Station customers are also benefiting from a refreshed concourse and new station entry plaza with seating, lighting and extra bicycle parking, new platform canopies creating more usable waiting areas, and re-surfaced platforms and platform access ramps.

Sydney Metro is Australia’s only fully accessible railway – with level access between platforms and trains, and lifts at all stations. New lifts will also be operational at Punchbowl, Canterbury, Hurlstone Park and Dulwich Hill before the end of the year, making the stations fully accessible for the first time. 

Currently, some stations like Hurlstone Park and Canterbury only have four trains an hour, however, when metro services start on the upgraded Bankstown Line, customers will have a train every four minutes in each direction in the peak – that’s 15 trains an hour each way.
