The final conversion of the T3 Bankstown Line to make way for Metro services is now underway. Metro will provide faster, more frequent, and more reliable services for people to commute to and from work by seamlessly connecting southwest Sydney with the northwest, through key employment hubs in the city, Chatswood and Macquarie Park.
Transport Options for Commuters in Southwest Sydney
Southwest Link buses are now running to assist passengers during the T3 Bankstown Line conversion period of up to 12 months. This dedicated, high frequency bus service between Sydenham and Bankstown train stations will ensure passengers can continue to travel during this time.
In addition to dedicated Southwest Link buses, other transport options are available so commuters can continue to access key places of employment such as the city, North Sydney and beyond while this conversion is taking place.
These additional options include:
- A new train service between Bankstown and Lidcombe, where you can connect with the T1, T2 and T3 Lines to the city
- Turn-up-and-go metro services from Sydenham, providing connections to the city, Chatswood and Macquarie Park
- Local buses with connections to other train lines
- Light rail
- Riding and walking routes
For now, here is some information about the Southwest Link, and the T3 and T6 train services to maintain CBD connectivity.
Southwest Link and the T6 and T3 train services (see map below)
Southwest Link is a high-frequency bus service between Sydenham and Bankstown train stations that ensures you can continue your commute during the final conversion period of the T3 Bankstown Line to Sydney Metro standards.
Southwest Link includes:
- Three dedicated bus routes known as the SW1, SW2 and SW3
- Frequent services every day from early in the morning until late at night
- A bus at least every four minutes in peak periods across some routes
- A mix of all stops and limited stop services between Sydenham and Bankstown
T6 Lidcome and Bankstown Line
For commuters west of Bankstown, access to the CBD will be maintained via Lidcombe. The new T6 line connects Bankstown to Lidcombe Station via Yagoona, Birrong, Regents Park and Berala.
Change at Lidcome for T1, T2 and T3 train lines and head straight into the CBD. Or, if you're heading to Parramatta, change at Lidcome for T1 and T2 lines.
T3 Liverpool and Inner West Line (formerly T3 Bankstown Line)
For southwest commuters, train services that previously operated between Liverpool and the City Circle via Bankstown now run via Regents Park and Lidcome, maintaining a direct service to the Sydney CBD for passengers.
