Plan ahead and allow extra travel time this Australia Day
There are plenty of ways to mark Australia Day with various outdoor events happening around the city throughout the day and evening on Sunday. If you're heading out on the day please plan ahead and consider all the available travel options.
Public transport will run regularly throughout the day and night to a weekend timetable with some additional services.
The best way to get to and from events in the city is by public transport with a number of major transport hubs in short walking distance of event precincts in Circular Quay and The Rocks. Extra trains and buses will run to help you get there and home again.
Planned weekend trackwork on the T2, T4, T5 and T8 lines may affect your trip to the city and you may need to change for buses to reach Central. Metro services will run between Tallawong and Waterloo only and to a changed frequency. You may need to change services to continue your journey.
Some bus routes will be affected by road closures and ferries will not run to and from Circular Quay from 11:45am to 12:45pm and 7pm to 10pm. Ferry passengers should consider alternative transport options as delays are expected while events take place on the harbour. Light rail services will not run between Circular Quay and Town Hall from 7:30pm to 10:30pm while crowds are leaving the harbour after the events.
