Plan ahead for the Anzac Day Dawn Service & March – Sydney CBD

Anzac Day participants and spectators heading to the Sydney CBD on Thursday for the annual Dawn Service and March are encouraged to plan ahead and consider public transport with large crowds expected.

The Dawn Service will be held in Martin Place from 4.20am to 5.20am. The Anzac Day March will commence at 9am and travel along Elizabeth Street. Major road closures and parking restrictions will be in effect for most of the day.

Travel on public transport is free for veterans and their families on Thursday 25 April 2024, so plan ahead and consider leaving the car at home. See transportnsw.info for more details.

Plenty of additional early morning public transport services will run and major transport interchanges are located within walking distance of the Dawn Service and March.

Roads around Martin Place in the Sydney CBD will start closing from 2am for the Anzac Day Dawn Service, followed by major closures along and surrounding the Elizabeth Street March route from 6am.

While roads are closed and the March is underway, designated pedestrian crossings on Elizabeth Street will be maintained at Park Street, Bathurst Street, Museum Station underground crossings, and at Hunter Street.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel through the Sydney CBD as traffic will be heavy on detour routes while closures are in place. If you must drive, allow plenty of extra travel time and arrive early to find parking. Check signs carefully as clearways will be in effect on various roads throughout the city.
