Plan ahead for changed traffic conditions and trackwork - from 10 January

Motorists and passengers are advised of changed traffic and travel conditions across Greater Sydney over the next week due to maintenance, project works and major events.

Sydney Harbour Bridge

Up to four lanes on the Sydney Harbour Bridge deck will close for maintenance and upgrade works from tonight:

  • Friday 10 January: 9:30pm – 5am (up to four lanes)

  • Saturday 11 January: 9:30pm – 5am (up to four lanes)

  • Sunday 12 January: 9pm – 5am (up to four lanes)

  • Monday 13 January: 9pm – 5am (up to four lanes)

  • Tuesday 14 January: 9pm – 5am (up to three lanes)

  • Wednesday 15 January: 9pm – 5am (up to three lanes)

  • Thursday 16 January: 9:30pm – 5am (up to three lanes)

Lane 4 of the Sydney Harbour Bridge will be continuously closed for Warringah Freeway Upgrade works from midnight Thursday 9 January to 5am Tuesday 14 January. This lane closure may continue later into the week.

Motorists can use other lanes on the Sydney Harbour Bridge or drive through the Sydney Harbour Tunnel as an alternative route, noting tunnel closures below. 

Sydney Harbour Tunnel

Motorists are advised that the Sydney Harbour Tunnel will be partially closed at certain times next week:

  • Saturday 11 January: 12am – 6am (both southbound lanes)

  • Sunday 12 January: 12am – 6am (both southbound lanes)

  • Tuesday 14 January: 10pm – 5am (mobile works one lane in each direction)

Warringah Freeway Upgrade

Motorists are reminded of changed traffic conditions on the Warringah Freeway this weekend and over the school holidays. Multiple temporary lane and ramp closures will be in place until 5am Sunday 26 January 2025.

Major traffic changes include:

  • Warringah Freeway closed southbound between Gore Hill Freeway, Artarmon and Mount Street, North Sydney from 11:59pm Friday 10 January to 6am Saturday 11 January 2025 (Contingency - 11:59pm Saturday 11 January to 6am Sunday 12 January 2025). Use Pacific Highway and Sydney Harbour Bridge to travel southbound.

There will be reduced capacity on the Warringah Freeway, both northbound and southbound until 5am Sunday 26 January 2025. Find more details here.

Western Distributor

  • Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions on the Western Distributor from this Sunday for four nights.

  • On Sunday 12 January and Monday 13 January, from 11pm to 5am, Eastbound Western Distributor lanes from Pyrmont Bridge Road off-ramp to Allen Street will be closed

  • On Tuesday 14 January and Wednesday 15 January, from 11pm to 5am, Pyrmont Bridge Road on-ramp eastbound towards the City and Sydney Harbour Bridge will be closed

Essential Trackwork

  • T1 Western, T5 Cumberland and Blue Mountains Lines – Buses will replace trains between Penrith, Richmond and Granville.
    • Buses will also run between some T1 Western Line stations and Tallawong. Frequent metro services will run between Tallawong and the City.
    • Trains from Penrith to Blue Mountains Line stations will run up to 45 minutes later than the normal timetable.
    • Bathurst trains will continue to run between Bathurst and Central, to a changed timetable.
    • From 9.15pm Saturday to 7.30am Sunday, buses will replace Blue Mountains Line trains between Springwood and Granville.
  • T2 Leppington & Inner West and T3 Liverpool & Inner West Lines – Inner West trains will not run but T2 Leppington trains will run between Leppington and the City via Granville or Regents Park, stopping at all stations between Homebush and Central. 

  • T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line – Buses will replace trains between Bankstown and Lidcombe until Friday 24 January. Trains will run between Liverpool and the City via Regents Park. 

  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line - Due to trackwork at Central, platforms 1-12, most trains will run to Strathfield only. Passengers will be able to change at Epping for metro services or change trains at Strathfield. 

Trains may run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. Passengers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and plan ahead by visiting transportnsw.info/alerts or using trip planning apps.

Other Works  

  • A reminder there are works on Mulgoa Road, all access to and from Mulgoa Road from the M4 will be closed between 2 and 24 January 2025. Find more information here

Major Events 

The Moore Park precinct will be bustling with sport and entertainment events this Saturday 11 January, with the Big Bash League Cricket Sydney Sixers v Perth Scorchers clash at the SCG from 4.45pm and the A-League men's Sydney FC v Central Coast Mariners game at neighbouring Allianz Stadium from 7.35pm. 

As well, Cirque Du Soleil shows at the Entertainment Quarter’s Big Top tent start at 4.30pm and 8pm. Sports fans should make the most of their ticket entitlements with travel on all public transport included in match BBL and A-League tickets. Extra light rail services will run frequently to and from Moore Park, if queues are long consider walking between Central and Moore Park and enjoy the many local venues on the way.
