Plan ahead for travel across Sydney this weekend - From 16 May

Motorists and passengers are advised of changed traffic and travel conditions across Greater Sydney this weekend due to project works, maintenance, and major events. Plan your trip at transportnsw.info and check the latest traffic conditions at livetraffic.com.  

Essential Trackwork   

  • Metro – Metro services  do not run between Chatswood and Sydenham all weekend. Services run between Tallawong and Chatswood only. Passengers should use T1 services between Chatswood, the City and Sydenham.  
  • Central Coast & Newcastle Line – Buses replace trains between Newcastle Interchange and Gordon on Saturday and Sunday. 
  • Hunter Line – All weekend and Monday, buses replace trains between Scone, Dungog and Newcastle Interchange. 
  • T9 Northern Line – Buses replace trains between Hornsby and Strathfield during the weekend. 
  • T1 North Shore Line – Buses replace trains between Berowra and Gordon. Trains run between Gordon and the City. 
  • T1 Western Line and T5 Cumberland Line – Buses replace trains between Richmond and Riverstone. 
  • Southern Highlands Line – Saturday 4:40am to 4:50pm, buses replace trains between Goulburn, Moss Vale and Campbelltown. 
  • T6 Lidcombe & Bankstown Line – Buses continue to replace trains between Bankstown and Lidcombe until 29 June 2025. 

Trackwork on other lines may affect how you travel. Trains may run to a changed timetable and stopping pattern. Passengers may need to change trains to complete their journey and are encouraged to allow extra travel time and plan ahead by visiting transportnsw.info/alerts or using trip planning apps.  

Heathcote Road  

Ongoing essential slope remediation works continue along Heathcote Road resulting in road closures until mid-June:  

  • Monday to Thursday nights from 8pm to 5am 
  • weekends from 8pm Friday to 5am Monday  

When closures are in place, motorists can expect delays and use detours via Bangor Bypass. Alternative routes are available via the Hume Motorway and Appin Road or Picton Road. For more info: Heathcote Road essential slope remediation | Transport for NSW 

Sydney Harbour Bridge 

Up to five lanes on the Sydney Harbour Bridge deck will close for maintenance and upgrade works from tonight:  

  • Friday 16 May: 9.30pm – 6am (up to four lanes) 
  • Saturday 17 May: 9.30pm– 7am (up to four lanes)  
  • Sunday 18 May:  9pm – 5am (up to four lanes, including one lane closed for 24 hours) 
  • Monday 19 May: 9pm– 5am (up to five lanes) 
  • Tuesday 20 May: 9pm– 5am (up to five lanes) 
  • Wednesday 21 May: 9pm– 5am (up to four lanes) 
  • Thursday 22 May: 9.30pm – 5am (four lanes) 

During these closures motorists can use the Sydney Harbour Tunnel as an alternative, noting the lane closures below. 

Sydney Harbour Tunnel 

The Sydney Harbour Tunnel will be closed on the below dates and times:   

  • Friday 16 May: one lane northbound from 11pm to 6am; one lane southbound from 10pm to 6am.
  • Saturday 17 May:  one lane northbound from 11pm to 6am; one lane southbound from 10pm to 6am.
  • Sunday 18 May: one lane northbound from 10.30pm to 5am; one lane southbound from 10pm to 5am.
  • Monday 19 May: one lane southbound from 10pm to 5am.
  • Tuesday 20 May: one lane northbound from 10.30pm to 5am; one lane southbound from 10pm to 5am.
  • Wednesday 21 May: one lane northbound from 10.30pm to 5am; one lane southbound from 10pm to 5am.
  • Thursday 22 May: one lane northbound from 10.30pm to 5am; one lane southbound from 10pm to 5am.

Warringah Freeway Upgrade  

Miller Street southbound on ramp: closed 6pm Friday 16 May to 6pm Saturday 17 May. Detour via Ernest Street or Falcon Street southbound on ramp. Miller Street on ramp will remain closed from 10am to 6pm weekdays until late May.

Mount Street eastern on ramp to Cahill Expressway: closed 10pm Friday 16 May to 5am Monday 19 May.  Motorists travelling from High Street or Mount Street to the Cahill Expressway should use the Mount Street on ramp to the Bradfield Highway and detour through the CBD, via the Grosvenor Street exit, Bridge Road and Macquarie Street to the Eastern Distributor.

General traffic and buses travelling southbound towards Cahill Expressway will share a single lane between Ridge Street and Lavender Street from 10pm Friday 16 May to 5am Monday 19 May. Southbound motorists may experience delays.

Northbound inner lanes of the freeway are closed from 10pm Friday 16 May to 5am Monday 19 May. Use the northbound outer lanes of the freeway instead.

M7-M12 Integration

Motorists are advised of temporary right lane closures along the M7 Motorway near Florence Street, Oakhurst and Hoxton Park Road, Hinchinbrook from Friday 16 May to Sunday 18 May 2025 for bridge concrete pour activities. Western Sydney 

Bringelly Road, Leppington will see surface repair works through to July 12. There may be delays while work is undertaken - Traffic changes on Bringelly Road, between Edmondson Avenue and Browns Road, and the Camden Valley Way intersection, Leppington | Transport for NSW

Major Events 

Moore Park events, Friday 16 May: More than 50,000 footy fans will travel to Moore Park tonight for AFL and Super Rugby matches kicking off around the same time at neighbouring SCG and Allianz Stadiums from 7.30pm. Attendees should leave the car at home to avoid heavy weeknight peak traffic and high demand for parking.
