Southwest Link has marked a major milestone, carrying one million passengers since 30 September 2024.

Millions of passengers can now tap  on to more Sydney Metro services, with trains now running later into the night and more frequently during the day.

Sydney has marked a historic moment in the city’s transport history with the doors officially opening on new metro services, extending from the city’s north-west at Chatswood, below the harbour and through the Sydney CBD, to Sydenham.

Sydney Metro City is set to open its doors to passengers on Monday 19 August, extending turn-up-and-go metro services from Chatswood, through the Sydney CBD, to Sydenham.

Train replacement bus services will operate during the final conversion period of the T3 Bankstown Line.

Mega tunnel boring machine (TBM) Eileen has crushed through a wall of rock to arrive at the Airport Terminal metro station site, marking the first tunnel breakthrough for the city-shaping Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport project. 

Customers at Australia’s busiest railway station are enjoying the benefits of more Sydney Metro upgrades with the 140-metre long by 27-metre wide North-South concourse opening today.

On-track testing is currently underway along the 15.5-kilometre twin metro railway lines from Chatswood to Sydenham ahead of services starting through the CBD in 2024.

For the first time in NSW’s transport history, trains are running deep below Sydney Harbour as the Sydney Metro City & Southwest project enters its next exciting stage.

The final piece in the puzzle to connect Sydney Metro City & Southwest with the existing Metro North West Line has been completed
