Major roads across Sydney are being upgraded to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, make our roads safer and meet the needs of the city’s growing population. These upgrades include:
WESTERN HARBOUR TUNNEL AND WARRINGAH FREEWAY UPGRADE
Once complete, the Western Harbour Tunnel will stretch 6.5km and connect the Warringah Freeway at North Sydney with the Rozelle Interchange, the M4 and the M5 via a tunnel beneath Sydney Harbour. It will be a much needed third Sydney Harbour crossing and offer a western bypass of the Sydney CBD.
The Warringah Freeway Upgrade would involve renovation of 4km of the freeway to provide connections for the Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link and significantly the improve the efficiency one of Australia’s busiest and most complex road corridors.

M12 MOTORWAY
Construction is currently underway on the M12 Motorway which will connect the M7 to Western Sydney International Airport and The Northern Road.
The 16 kilometre motorway features two lanes in each direction with capacity for future widening to three lanes.
Major construction started in August 2022 on the West and Central sections between The Northern Road, Luddenham and Duff Road, Cecil Park. We expect the new motorway to be complete by 2026.

M6 Stage 1
The M6 Stage 1 is the missing link from Sydney’s south to the Greater Sydney motorway network, making journeys easier, faster and safer. It will remove more than 2,000 trucks a day from surface roads, and help return local streets to local communities.
This new underground tunnel will transform southern Sydney for generations to come, linking local communities and supporting employment opportunities and economic growth.
