Plan ahead and consider public transport around Sydney Airport: 25-28 August

Motorists travelling near Sydney Airport between 25 and 28 August are urged to plan ahead and allow extra time with major works in the area likely to impact traffic in and around Mascot.

O’Riordan Street, Mascot, will be closed between Robey Street and Qantas Drive/Joyce Drive from 11pm Friday 25 August to 5am Monday 28 August.

Detours and alternative travel options will be in place during the closure.

Southbound traffic heading to the airport should use Southern Cross Drive or the Princes Highway throughout this time.

There will also be a signposted detour route via Gardeners Road, Botany Road and Wentworth Avenue.

Where possible, people travelling to the airport are urged to consider public transport with T8 Airport & South Line trains, timetabled buses, and a temporary shuttle bus service running to ensure passengers can get to and from the airport without the worry of navigating the changed road conditions.

If you need to travel by road to the airport, please allow at least 60 minutes of additional travel time. Motorists should expect heavy traffic and delays.

The closure is being carried out as part of the Botany Rail Duplication project with this phase of work including the demolition of the existing bridge and installation of a new bridge and track at O’Riordan Street.

Public Transport

Public transport will be the best option for people heading to and from the airport.

The T8 Airport & South Line will maintain train services to the airport throughout the O’Riordan Street closure.

A temporary shuttle bus service (420S) will run a loop service between Sydney Airport and Mascot.

Timetabled bus services will also continue to run, however there will be temporary bus stop closures and changes to services in the area due to the O’Riordan Street closure and subsequent detours. Plan your trip on public transport at: transportnsw.info

Local parking and pedestrian access

The east-west pedestrian movement on the southern side of the intersection of Botany Road and Robey Street will be removed for the duration of the O’Riordan Street closure. Pedestrians should instead cross at the northern side of the intersection.

Special event clearways will be in place on the eastern side of Botany Road between Gardeners Road and Wentworth Avenue on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 August from 6am to 7pm.

There will be no parking available on the southbound carriageway during this time.

Heavy vehicles

Heavy vehicles heading towards the Airport or Port Botany will not be able to proceed past the intersection of O’Riordan Street and Bourke Road.

NSW Police will direct these vehicles onto O’Riordan Street or Bourke Road northbound. Southbound heavy vehicles should instead use the signposted detour route via Gardeners Road and Botany Road.

Heavy vehicles heading away from Port Botany can continue to use Joyce Drive/Qantas Drive and then turn right into Robey Street and left to head north on O’Riordan Street.
